Well Monday, and the release of Decisive Results, is just a weekend away! At the moment I’m uploading the file to various file sharing sites so everyone can download it but I would really love to have a streaming version available to post here on the site. Unfortunately, just uploading the file to my web host isn’t really an option. Hosting the file myself would push me over my bandwidth allowance and shut my site down…or require me to pay hundreds of dollars in overage fees.

I suppose what I’m looking for is an adult-friendly alternative to YouTube that will allow embedding. I’ve looked into a few of the porn tube sites but the quality is so hideous that I don’t think its a viable option (there’s on-screen text during the vid that needs to be readable). So far the best option I found was dailymotion but they only allow nudity (not graphic sex) and they cap the vid length to 20 min (our vid is around 23).

Alternatively, I’ve looked to see if there are any hosting sites, such as NearlyFreeSpeech, where I could upload a single file and then stream it to my site from there. If I multiply the file size of the video by the number of visitors my site had last month that still ends up costing me several hundred dollars.

I don’t know if there is a free way to solve this problem but I wanted to ask you all if there were any options I haven’t thought of.

Thanks in advance if anyone has a suggestion.

As I said in the post, I looked into them but they don’t allow explicit content or vids longer than 20 min.

I have a small web-hosting thing that I do on the side. I’ll check to see what my limits are but I might be able to help. Shoot me a message with the size, expected bandwidth etc and I’ll see what I can do.

Ach, alas, I didn’t see that! Apologies.

I dunno about a streaming video site but for a download location you could try dropbox

@Slyspeaker: Thank you for your offer, look for a note shortly.

@Julia: Thank you for the recommendation but I believe Veoh stopped allowing adult content after their whole lawsuit problem.

@Mark: Thank you for that suggestion, as it turns out, I was thinking along very similar lines.

Maybe you could put preview pictures of the video on the site and then offer a link to download it. Kind of like a thumbnail?

Really sorry I couldn’t find a site though

If the file is so large and web-based download so problematic, why not set-up a torrent as well? Bittorrent feeds on popularity – while the file is popular, the torrent is up. When the file is no longer popular enough that a seed remains, a web-based download location should be able to take the few downloads remaining. (pseudo-random variations aside, but, then again, load balancing is an engineering sub-discipline)

@Maurice: Thank you for your suggestion. I plan on offering a torrent file but downloading the video is not the issue I was raising, its streaming the file via an embedded player.

Be careful with Dropbox. If you have the viewer count that I suspect you have, your account could be banned quite quickly!

I think there’s a 2Gb limit per day or something like that.

@Kivik: Thank you for the warning. I did look into this and, currently, Dropbox has a 20GB per day cap on free accounts and a 200GB per day cap on paid accounts.

Ah! 20GB a day, my bad. I guess it depends on the size of the video file then? Wouldn’t want you to get banned!

Is the video out soon or should us brits head to bed now? 😉
