"Space Ranger"
The Princess of a planetary coalition is captured by sinister forces plotting to seize control.
Over the years, I’ve become a big fan of pre-space-race-sci-fi. There is a certain charm to the “Flash Gordon” era of space opera that I’ve come to love. It doesn’t hurt that mind control is a recurring theme in many of these old serials and tv shows. One in particular that has caught my attention is Rocky Jones: Space Ranger.
On that show, there was a recurring character who happened to be a female mind controller. In several storylines, she reprogrammed characters using a mind control device that was mounted to a wall. The character would be placed in the room, the device would be activated, and the flashing lights and droning sounds would hypnotize them and leave them unable resist the controller’s commands.
Pretty neat stuff.
Anyhoo, when I stumbled across this image that scenario immediately leaped into my mind. I started working on how it would animate while jotting down some story ideas for who the lovely model is and why someone wants to take control of her mind.
UPDATE:
With the release of Jette Jones Issue #01, this project is moving into the ‘Complete’ category. While this source image hasn’t been utilized yet, the story idea it generated blossomed into the first four issues of the Jette Jones monthly series. I’ll certainly keep this image handy though. Who knows? It may end up on a cover of one of these days.
